State of the Sector 2013

State of the Sector 2013 - by DrugScope on behalf of the Recovery Partnership

This survey, conducted by DrugScope on behalf of the Recovery Partnership in September and October 2013, took a snapshot of the current conditions for and adaptation of the drug and alcohol treatment sector in England. Given the scope of changes to funding and commissioning structures effective from April 2013, the survey was aimed at helping to establish a narrative of change in the sector – both for services, and the people who use them. The survey was primarily for local managers of adult community and residential drug and / or alcohol treatment services although anyone could participate if they were able to provide information about an individual service. Following the initial online survey, we contacted a number of service / project managers and Chief Executives for short telephone interviews to gain more detailed information in response to emerging findings. The results will inform the priorities of DrugScope and the Recovery Partnership over the coming year.

About DrugScope and the Recovery Partnership

DrugScope is the national membership organisation for the drug and alcohol fields and the UK’s leading independent centre of expertise on drugs and drug use. DrugScope represents around 450 member organisations involved in drug and alcohol treatment, young people’s services, drug education, criminal justice and related services, such as mental health and homelessness.

The Recovery Partnership is comprised of the Substance Misuse Skills Consortium, the Recovery Group UK and DrugScope. It provides a collective voice and channel for communication to Government on the achievement of the ambitions in the drug strategy, and is working to support the sector and others in improving treatment outcomes and supporting sustained recovery.
