4MTA is a Class A controlled drug. It is a derivative of amphetamine and has similar effects to ecstasy. It has been associated with six deaths since it was first identified in Europe in 1997, and is thought to be responsible for at least 4 deaths in the UK, sometimes in conjunction with other drugs. It is often sold as 'ecstasy' or 'Flatliners' Updated 2004
