Future challenges: exploring creative ways for mental health education and training to bridge the gaps between legislation, policy and practice
| Starts on | 10/09/2008 |
| Ends on | 11/09/2008 |
| Category | Conference |
| Location | Jubilee Campus, University of Nottingham |
Information: This conference follows on from previous mental health training and education conferences in Brighton (2001), Lincoln (2002), Nottingham (2003; 2004) and London (2005; 2006; 2007). It will examine the role of education and training as an essential bridge between legislation, policy and practice. This will be done through: - presentations on the key themes of implementing legislation and consolidating recent innovative initiatives in education and training
- Concurrent sessions concentrating on specific areas and challenges for education and training
- a concluding session to evaluate the conference, draw together key messages and set the scene for the 2009 conference.
The Mental Health Act 2007 will be implemented in November 2008. This Act is the last major component of the modernisation agenda that was launched by the government in 1998. In 1999, the National Service Framework (NSF) established a 10-year programme, based on seven key standards, and this programme concludes in 2009. This conference will explore the education and training challenges in relation to new mental health legislation in England and Wales. It will also look ahead and consider how best to consolidate training and education initiatives that have arisen through the modernisation agenda, and which need to be robust enough to survive and thrive beyond 2009 in a post-NSF era.
