Information: This event, organised by The FASD Trust, would be of value to anyone working in children's, maternity, social, mental health or substance misuse services. The World Health Organisation estimate that as many as 1 in 100 children are born each year in the UK with some degree of physical or mental disability due to pre-natal alcohol exposure (Foetal Alcohol Spectrum
Disorders). This event is to mark International FAS Day (9th day of the
9th month = 9 months of pregnancy when it is advised that alcohol is
avoided).
The main speaker is Dr Raja Mukherjee, Consultant Psychiatrist, regarded as
the UK's leading expert on FASD. Young people who are affected, along with
their families, will also be speaking. The afternoon session focuses on the
way forward and the response required to reduce incidence rates, as well as
improve support available to those affected.
