Parental substance misuse given think-tank treatment

30 January 2007

A Scottish parliament think-tank is to tackle the issue of parental substance misuse and its effects on children.

Community Care magazine reports that the Scottish Futures Forum will gather together 250 people with expertise in the field in a series of meetings in 2007.

The think-tank will explore the role of communities in tackling substance misuse, policy and regulation, the improvement of treatment options and preventative work, as well as looking in depth at the impact of substance misuse on young people.

Chief executive Robert Rae told Community Care: "There are 50,000 children affected by their parents drug-taking and 100,000 by alcohol abuse and we are concerned about future generations. "
