International Harm Reduction Association presents the 50 Best literature resource

22 January 2007

The International Harm Reduction Association (IHRA) has launched its new website with the first in a series of 50 Best, literature resources for those working in the field of harm reduction.

The first "50 Best" comprises a collection of papers on HIV Prevention and Care for Injecting Drug Users, a free resource, collating the best papers, articles and documents in the field. An international reference panel of experts was set up to ensure that the selected documents were of a high standard and reflected a global rather than a national perspective.

The collection is divided into 18 sub-categories for ease of selection, ranging from papers on the epidemiology of injecting drug use (IDU) and related HIV infection to documents about needle and syringe programmes, health promotion and drug education and resource allocation and requirements.

The resource is intended for people who are involved in trying to reduce the number of new HIV infections among injecting drug users (IDU) or trying to improve the care of IDU already infected with HIV. The documents may be used to improve advocacy for HIV prevention strategies, plan new services, improve or evaluate existing services, carry out research or develop new policy. The collection is intended to benefit policy makers, practitioners, communities and drug users around the world.

Future topics for the 50 Best series include Tobacco Harm Reduction, Policing and Harm Reduction, Harm Reduction Advocacy and Alcohol Harm Reduction. The collections will all be posted on the IHRA website, so keep an eye on the site for more.
