Today sees the launch of a major new report from the International Harm Reduction Association (IHRA).The report, Global State of Harm Reduction 2008, is being launched in Barcelona, currently hosting IHRA’s 19th international conference, Harm Reduction 2008.
Global State of Harm Reduction 2008: Mapping the response to drug-related HIV and hepatitis C epidemics brings together existing data on drug use, HIV and hepatitis C as well as documenting harm reduction policies and practices around the world. The report also records the activities of the relevant multi-lateral agencies such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
Designed to be an advocacy and reference tool for a wide range of audiences, the report is the third publication from the HR2 Programme, IHRA’s programme of research and advocacy on harm reduction and human rights funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).The document will enable IHRA to engage with and work alongside a wide range of partners around the world – regional harm reduction networks, international human rights organisations and HIV and drug policy organisations – to advocate and lobby for the implementation of harm reduction policies.
In the coming months, IHRA will also be launching a web-based Global State of Harm Reduction reference tool. This will be regularly updated to reflect the latest developments in harm reduction worldwide.
