A question of balance: delivering an inclusive treatment and recovery system. DrugScope conference 2012

Tuesday 6th November 2012, London

Tuesday 6th November 2012

Connaught Rooms, Great Queen Street, London WC2B 5DA

In every cliché, there is a large element of truth, so we make no apologies for emphasising that ‘there are many ways into addiction and many ways out of it’. But for people to find the right path for them, all paths have to be open and so therefore we have an obligation to deliver a balanced and holistic treatment and recovery system which is not driven either by cash or ideology. To that end, we have speakers who will cover the spectrum from harm reduction and substitute prescribing to abstinence-based services and workshops looking at the needs of special groups such as the older user.

Speakers, panellists and workshop leaders include:

  • Karen Biggs, Chief Executive, Phoenix Futures
  • Dr. Steve Brinksman, Clinical Director, SMMGP
  • Annette Dale-Perera, Strategic Director of Addictions, CNWL NHS Trust
  • Professor Robin Davidson, Chair of Alcohol Research UK
  • Alison Garnham, Chief Executive, Child Poverty Action Group
  • Roger Howard, Chief Executive, UK Drug Policy Commission
  • Chris Heffer, Deputy Director, Alcohol and Drugs
  • Katy MacLeod, Crew, Crew2000
  • Dr John Ramsey, St George’s Hospital Medical School
  • Dr Marcus Roberts, Director of Policy and Membership, DrugScope
  • Professor John Strang, Head of Addictions, Kings College London

Workshop topics:

  • Latest new drugs to hit the streets
  • Services for the older user
  • Service provision for LGBT clients
  • Best practice in residential rehabilitation
